Great! And then what?

I remember this old cartoon pamphlet/track that I had a long time ago. I bet I could still find it if I had to. It’s here somewhere. There are two guys standing in the subway, one who’s about to graduate or something like that. His friend listens to his plans for after graduation and then asks, “Great! And then what?” The man goes on to describe meeting his dream wife and having a family. Great! And then what? A big house and climbing the ladder of success. Great! And then what? A yacht…more things…Great! And then what? By now the first man is getting frustrated by his friend’s questions about “and then what”. Whaddaya mean and then what?! What else is there?!

What else is there?

What will be there at the end of the day…what will I have to show for it when I face God? Tonight I took Samuel home from church, and it occurred to me to sing to Samuel in the car. I realized that since we’ve been here, he hasn’t heard me sing much or at all for one reason or another. So I decided to sing with what was playing on the radio. He immediately started to sing, too, and it made me smile.

I started this blog a few months ago at a point when I was just getting by, or surviving, so to speak. These past few months have been a growing period that I am truly thankful for (sorry to end in a preposition, my 6th grade English teacher would be appalled). But God’s mercy and patience have been so amazing on the other side of these months so that when I see how He has all pieced EVERYTHING together, I can only shake my head in wonder at the intricate design of every aspect of this journey.

So my question is : And then what? Why all this struggle? Why all this uncertainty? In a world where I can make things happen if I try hard enough (my motto up until now)…why would you give it all up and trust God?

BECAUSE THERE IS SOMETHING MORE…

A destiny, a plan, a purpose and a legacy to leave for your kids and your grandkids. Something for that cloud of witnesses to see (Hebrews 12) and cheer and be amazed at our faith in the unseen.
Something for today and not when just we reach those pearly gates. Something bigger than we could ever imagine.

Go for it! (and take your kids with you)
